If you are facing any kind of struggle right now…and I mean ANY…
in your money situation,
in your relationships,
with your health,
or your career,
chances are you are not actively using the power of gratitude to influence your reality.
I know, I know…”be grateful,” it’s everywhere: on mugs, on infographics posted on your Facebook stream, in almost every single self-help book out there.
But have you ever wondered why?
The truth is, for most people, gratitude is just a nice idea like rainbows and unicorns. It’s a fleeting thought or a couple words mumbled every now and then when someone helps us out. And yet, many of us think we are pretty grateful people. I did.
But gratitude is a literal force. It is the force of Love in action. It is a GIVING of energy. You are giving thanks. And Universal Law has it that when you GIVE, you RECEIVE. Not to mention, gratitude has been shown to physically change your brain chemistry and hormones reducing stress, anxiety and depression – my original motivation to practice it.
I recently gave a speech at a very dear childhood friend’s wedding where I shared with everyone the magical “love hack” of gratitude. I composed 2 letters: one from the groom to the bride and one from the bride to the groom. The letters were tongue in cheek where one thanked the other for all the things that drive them nuts and then sincerely explaining why they can actually be grateful for each one of these annoyances. Everyone loved it. The groom rushed up to me afterwards asking if he could keep the letters and that made me smile because I knew if they could truly adhere to this practice of being grateful for what they now complain about… it would bless their marriage for life.
Personally, I’m deeply re-invigorated by gratitude in my life lately. I appreciate it on a level that I have not before. I, too, have always thought, ya, I’m a very grateful person, but I’m humbled to say that what I thought was a healthy dose of gratitude each day has really just been a drop in the bucket.
And even that drop has been a magical force in my life! Practicing gratitude once a day for the last several years has brought me to where I am from single, jobless mother to living in my own personal paradise in the country, with all the time and financial freedoms I yearned for 7 years ago after my marriage failed. I get to spoil my loved ones and invest in my daughter Meelah and her passion for riding…(as of tomorrow she is the proud and ecstatic owner of her very first horse, Prince Charming!) My co-parenting relationship with her dad is more peaceful and respectful than it ever has been…the list goes on.
But in the last month I’ve been accessing gratitude on a whole new level – thanks to the Detox to Destiny Mastery group program that I teach with my coaching partner Britta. This year Britta wanted to take gratitude to whole new level in the group. And (because we are adamant about walking the talk) we too made the commitment to make gratitude a moment-to-moment practice alongside our participants vs. something we do once a day at night before sleep.
This is changing the game for me. I thought my life was great but…
I have never felt so much certainty about life,
I have never felt so much peace and joy springing from my heart, (not kidding – levels I didn’t know I even had in me that have brought me to my knees with awe)
Things have never looked so bright and colorful before, or smelled so sweet,
There is an even deeper sense of ease and flow and trust in myself and the Divine,
I have never felt so consistently harmonious in my relationships…
…and I’m beginning to glimpse: there’s even more. There’s more than we can imagine…because perhaps gratitude, a function of Love and Creation itself, perhaps all these things… are limitless. And all we have to do is tap in to them.
And I’m not the only one reporting seismic shifts, Britta and the group are seeing huge gains, fast, by applying gratitude as a necessity of life in each moment, like breathing!
As an inspirational resource in the program, we are using Rhonda Byrne’s book The Magic. Sure there are many fantastic books on gratitude out there, but this one is highly practical and implementable so I recommend it. It has rounded out my gratitude toolbox and has made it easy to stay connected to gratitude/Love in the many moments through the day.
So here are 10 ways, some from Rhonda Byrne’s book, for you to amp up the power of gratitude in your life starting right now…and then watch for the magic, like the disappearing act of your current struggles! Use some or ALL of them:)
- Start your day with gratitude by writing out 10 things you are grateful for and why
- Thank everything you touch in the first 30 minutes of your day: Thank you carpet, toothbrush, toilet etc.
- Say thank you silently to every person your encounter throughout your day
- Post reminders around your work and home to find something to be grateful for when you see them (I have the initials of my loved one on some of these)
- Thank money at every interaction: thank you for coming to me, thank you for being there to buy these groceries, thank you for being in my account, thank you for all money I have been given in my life etc. – this one is HUGE for abundance
- Thank people who offend you… trust me on this, just say a silent thank you while you are arguing, you’ll see
- Say “thank you” while you are walking somewhere with each step; down the street, on the treadmill, in the mall
- Write out a list that thanks the universe for all your pending desires as if they are already yours
- Do not close your eyes at night without thanking your body and all it’s parts for all it does for you
- Thank your home and car each time you leave or enter them
- BONUS: Fill your day with things you LOVE – this is like a gratitude autoplay function;)
So which ones will you start right now, as you are reading this…go on, take a moment and pick one and do it right now! It is that simple. CHOOSE gratitude whenever and where ever possible. Remember it as a most powerful source of receiving and resolution. Be especially grateful for things you don’t want to be…this gets easier with practice:) Committing to gratitude as a necessity is the greatest gift you can give yourself and everyone around you!
Give yourself this gift, I urge you with a full heart:) And pass this post along to your nearest and dearest – they will thank you for it!
Soooooo grateful <3
